Michael: “I’m Kind of a Miracle Person.”
Shortly after undergoing surgery in a short-term acute care hospital, Michael suffered cardiac arrest and was put on a ventilator to help him breathe. He needed extended hospitalization for his recovery and was transferred to Kindred Hospital Las Vegas – Sahara. The goal was to help him wean from the ventilator to allow him to breathe independently and walk again.

When Michael entered Kindred Hospital, he was unable to do anything by himself. He had been a construction worker and was very social, so not being able to move or talk was very difficult for him.
The respiratory team initiated weaning protocols and was able to successfully wean Michael from his ventilator.
The rehab team of physical therapists began working with him immediately to improve his stamina and mobility. Armed with determination and effort, along with support from his family and speech therapists Michael began talking and eating again.
After 30 days at Kindred, Michael had made immense progress on his road to recovery. He was breathing independently, required minimal assistance to bathe or dress, and was able to walk 150 feet with a walker.
Michael now recalls being admitted to Kindred in a helpless state. “Now I’m able to walk, talk, eat and do things for myself. It’s wonderful. I’m kind of a miracle person and so very happy for everything everyone’s done for me!”
Kindred Hospital Las Vegas – Sahara’s success is apparent in stories like this as well as in our quality scores – our patients and families rate our quality of care at 91.8 percent and over 95 percent would recommend Kindred.
